Belgian fashion designer, Martin Margiela, graduate from Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1980 was a former assistant to Jean-Paul Gaultier. After working for the Hermes' womenswear line as an artistic director, he decided to branch out unveiling his premiere collection in 1989. Since then, he has achieved the utmost cult couturier status, his unconventional and dynamic sense of craftsmanship has grasped, charmed & outfoxed the most cynical of onlookers. In like manner, he constantly thrives off fashion destruction, often depicting then altering the pristine function of clothing from unravelling old army socks making them into sweaters to even using plastic laundry bags as the foundations for his garments. Likewise, through out his career, Martin Margiela has maintained a very low profile often shying away from the media spotlight leaving audience members provoked & curious about what he will bring next to the table. His fashion illustrations, superb, his manipulation of conventional moulds, spectacles in themselves, with an immortal imagination, he pursues his collections evoking doctrine convictions leaving no stone unturned, no jaw un-dropped.
