This unusual ancient tradition dates back to the early Victorian ages in which a mourner would gather hair locks of a decreased loved one & commemorate them by enclosing human hair into brooches, pendants, pockets, bangles etc. This was a popular practice & acted as source of sacred memorial for the mourning individual, often symbolizing the attempt to prolong the life of the decreased. By the same token, these original antiques have gained plenty of sentimental value over the years & can be sought at very high price tag. Designing replicates have become more common through avant-grade stylized approaches which include the incorporation of strands of pony hair over human hair and the addition of wrapping/coiling, looping & attaching of flashy metal clasps & chains. Squeamish yet? just think of it as the new fabric of life, hair never looked so good.
